Lantern Falling Series

This is my main series-in-writing. It's about a girl named Mira Campbell and her four friends: Thomas, Court, Blue, and Kid. As you can tell by the names, the setting isn't exactly "normal"/ In a futuristic world, where poverty, depression, death, and crime rule there is little to be optimistic about. Mira goes to work each day, forgetting that she's merely 18, and does what she can to help provide her share of the income for the house she and her friends share together.
Despite that everything in her life seems to be going wrong at every corner she turns, there's a place Mira knows can change her fate forever. It's a city in the sky, where the food and water are endless and the joy is ever full. It's a place Mira will get to.
   Whatever the cost.

Mixed in with all her emotions about Cityscape is Thomas Cole, a mystery surrounding Kid, and a boy from her past.

"Cityscape" is the first installment in my "Lantern Falling" series. There will be four others, titled: 2) The Traitor's Brand, 3) Above the Flames, 4) Steel Grey, and 5) When We're Home.

I'm about half way completed with "Cityscape", logging in at approximately 55,000 words. I'll most likely begin writing "The Traitor's Brand", given I'm finished with "Cityscape", in around May-ish of next year. Wish me luck! :)

MEET THE CHARACTERS

MAIN

Mira Campbell- She has honey brown hair, pale green eyes, and is a Cityscape Supporter. No more, no less. She's the terribly confused heroine of this series. The book is written through her eyes (first person, present tense). Her life, after her parents died when she was too young to remember them, ultimately began at an orphanage, and then seemingly ended when Grayling drove her away when she was eight. She was too optimistic for Grayling Jons and the rest of the kids and caretakers there; they didn't like her views on Cityscape. In the first installment of the Lantern Falling series, she is firmly supportive of the Lantern in the sky. But who knows if that Support will last, eh?

Thomas Cole- His shaggy brown hair, steel grey eyes, and quiet, secretive person drives Mira up the wall. He does what he has to, no matter the cost, and doesn't complain, even when any normal person would. Thomas is the "leader" of the five-orphan band in this series. His life wasn't easy before meeting Mira and the rest, and it isn't getting any better, what with Cityscape still rising in the sky and with his curious, confusing attraction to Mira Campbell. He first met Mira when he was nine. A heavy rain fall was pouring, and normally he wouldn't have said anything, but she was so helpless looking. He offered the extra space in the nook he was sitting in. That was the beginning. What will his end be?

Court Taylor- Tall, broad, lovable Court. He has short dark brown hair, brilliant, bright brown eyes, and can talk forever if you let him. He's sweet and full of humor, but he also has a surprising sense of thought and ideas about everything. He's the cook of the orphan-band, and the second oldest as well. There's little that his brown eyes don't see, including the attraction between Mira and Thomas. Whether Mira wants to believe it or not, even when Court tells her his thoughts, he knows the truth. Read the book, and you will, too.

Blue Jacobs- Long black hair, blue eyes, a dry, sarcastic sense of humor, and a life she never sees as dull or droll: that's the mixture of personality Blue has. A punk to the last, and to the first. She and Kid often get into comical arguments about this and that, like what hamburgers come from (which, as everyone knows, comes from pigs). Her thoughts about Cityscape have been ingrained in her mind ever since she was little, and they won't be changing; not if she can help it. The city in the sky is a worthless piece of crap and shouldn't be given the light of day, in her opinion. It will eventually fall, she knows for certain. Or will it?

Kid- Shaggy blonde hair, green eyes, and a tall, lanky body with a crooked grin. He's mischievous, like Blue, and has a joke to say about everything. Whether it's funny or not, he's going to say it. Despite his awkward sense of humor, there's a layer underneath all of his jokes that is utter seriousness. And a depth of secrets that have never been told, like the reason he's called "Kid". When he first joined the "band" he told them that his name wasn't important. No one knows it, and that's how it's going to stay. Or maybe it'll be found out. Who knows.

OTHER

Grayling Jons- Part Hispanic, with dark hair, dark eyes, and an unoptimistic future and past. He's the boy that drove Mira away from the orphanage, and he's the boy that will... wait, nevermind. Read the book and find out.

Soren Eamon- He's a stylishly kept boy Mira knows from her job at the Farm. He's got brown hair and blue eyes. Along with his sister, Skye, he's far from supportive of Cityscape. There is nothing else in his mixed up word that he detests more than the Lantern. He hopes with all the hope left inside of him that it will fall from the sky one day. He will aid the cause as much as he can. Will it fall though? There's no telling, what with a world deprived of most ethics and poverty.

Atticus "Cus" Delling- Calm auburn hair, blue eyes, and a sweet temperament. Mira meets him at a Cityscape meeting. As Supporters are very, very few where she lives, Cus is an amazing find. Quickly after meeting Mira, Cus tells her, "But I've never spoken a cuss word in my life. Try living in a place like the City with an old fashioned name like Atticus." He also tells her what everyone else has been saying: that there's something going on between her and Thomas. Is there, though? Read and find out.

Mrs. Jinken- She's the five orphan's next door neighbor. Unkempt, dirty, and sometimes rude; she's a gem at heart, though. A dusty gem, yes, but with a bit of polishing, you'll get her laughing and shining within minutes. It seems as though everyone is able to see the attraction between Mira and Thomas except Mira herself. "Why haven't you asked her out yet?" Mrs. Jinken once said. Will Thomas ask her out, though?
